Bringing balance to the Premier League one offside at a time

English Premier League Table Discounting Refereeing Mistakes
Each week the English Premier League table is adjusted to correct for mistakes made by referees and linesmen. Goals are added and subtracted from the Goals For and Against columns to discount for poor officiating. The points totals are adjusted to reflect the different outcomes of the matches. For a list of this season's refereeing errors see This Season's Mistakes.

Additional notes:

Goals For
Added:
1. Good goals that were scored but were wrongly disallowed for offside, foul on the keeper, ball didn't cross the line etc.
2. Penalties that should have been given (it is assumed that all penalties would have been scored)
3. Goals that weren't scored but would have been if not for miscellaneous injustices - e.g. wrongful red cards* to key players etc.

Subtracted:
1. Goals that were given but should have been disallowed for offside, foul on the keeper, ball didn't cross the line etc.
2. Penalties, or direct free-kicks that led to a goal, that shouldn't have been given
3. Goals that were scored as a result of miscellaneous injustices - e.g. wrongful red cards* to key players etc.

Goals Against
Added:
1. Good goals that were conceded but were wrongly disallowed for offside, foul on the keeper, ball didn't cross the line etc.
2. Penalties that should have been given (it is assumed that all penalties would have been scored)
3. Goals that weren't conceded but would have been if not for miscellaneous injustices - e.g. wrongful red cards* to key players etc.

Red Cards
*The effect of incorrect red cards is determined on a game-by-game basis taking into account the influence of the player sent off, how well that player was playing, the dominance of the team incurring the injustice, and the minute of the sending off.
Examples: Titus Bramble sent off incorrectly in the 85th minute of a game Wigan were struggling to control is presumed to not effect the outcome of a game. In comparison the incorrect sending off of Christiano Ronaldo in the 20th minute of a game that Man. Utd. were dominating is likely to impact the outcome of the game.
